Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress, best known for her roles as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC TV series Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Her parents had divorced and they moved together with their mother in Los Angeles. She landed her debut role in the film, Rachel's Room's lead character in 2001 despite struggling financially. Her performance of Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder in the TV film Murder in Greenwich in 2002 earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award. In 2004 Grace was selected to portray Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost where she was a main cast member for the first two seasons winning a Screen Actors Guild Award shared by the entire cast. Grace was dropped from the series in 2005 to pursue an even more prominent role in films, having appeared alongside Tom Welling as Kim Mills in Taken. She starred as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken 2008) as Suburban Girl as well as The Jane Austen Book Club. The role was reprised for Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the leading role in Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern version of Lewis Carroll's classic novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace returned to the character as Shannon in two episodes of Lost which included the finale of the series. In 2013 she appears in Season 6 of Californication. The actress plays Faith as a groupie, and also her muse to the stars that catches the interest of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. As a part of the Gyllenhaal family, she is the daughter and elder sister to actor Jake Gyllenhaal. When she was in her teens, she played small parts in the films of her father and she co-starred alongside her sister in Donnie Darko, a cult classic. The next film she appeared in was Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, both 2002 and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal received praise from critics for her performances as the lead in Secretary (2002, erotic romantic drama) as well as Sherrybaby (606) and Sherrybaby (606) of which garnered their Golden Globe Award nods. The actress gained more attention when she portrayed Rachel Dawes, a superhero in The Dark Knight (2008) due to the success of several commercial films that she was a part of the year the year 2006. Following her acclaimed performance as a single mother in Crazy Heart (2009), she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She then appeared in dramas and comedies such as Nanny McPhee's Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011, and Won't Back Down 2012 Her other roles include a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) a musician in Frank (2014) and the title role in the drama The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal debuted as a director and writer in 2021 with her drama about psychological issues The Lost Daughter. For the film, she won an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award.
